FAQs
Watch Ownership & Maintenance – FAQs
How often should I replace my watch battery?
Typically every 1–3 years, depending on the watch and battery type. If your watch stops, runs slow, or the second hand jumps in 4-second intervals, it’s likely time for a new battery.
Can I leave a dead battery in my watch?
It’s best not to. A dead battery can leak over time and damage the internal components. We recommend replacing or removing it promptly.
How do I know if my watch is water-resistant?
Look for a marking on the case back (e.g., "50m", "WR 100m", "Water Resistant"). Keep in mind:
-
30m = splash resistant
-
50m = shower, but not swimming
-
100m+ = safe for swimming/diving
Always have the seals checked after opening the case.
Do I need to wind my automatic watch?
Automatic watches wind themselves when worn, but if left unworn for a day or two, they may stop. Simply give it 20–30 turns of the crown to restart it.
Is it bad to manually wind an automatic watch daily?
Not at all — most are designed for that. Just avoid over-winding. When you feel resistance, stop.
Why is my watch running fast or slow?
This can be due to magnetism, wear on the movement, or needing regulation. Quartz watches rarely drift, but mechanical watches can vary by up to ±10 seconds per day. If it’s worse than that, it might need a service.
How often should I service my watch?
Quartz watches: every battery cycle or 3–5 years
Mechanical watches: every 3–7 years depending on use
A full service includes cleaning, oiling, and regulation.
Can I change the strap myself?
Yes! Many watches have quick-release spring bars for easy swaps. If not, a spring bar tool makes it simple. If you're unsure, we’re happy to help in-store.
What’s the best way to clean my watch?
Use a microfibre cloth and mild soap with warm water for cases and bracelets. Avoid submerging leather straps or non-water-resistant watches.
Can I polish scratches off my watch crystal?
If it’s acrylic, yes — we offer polishing services.
If it’s mineral or sapphire, polishing is limited or not possible — but we can often replace the crystal if needed.
